Winter is most definitely here across the United Kingdom and with Christmas and New Year out of the way we are all thinking about our summer holiday destination.  Where to go? I here you ask.  Well, I am thinking you can't go wrong with booking a nice cheap holiday to one of the Greek Islands.  All of which are stunning islands but I think the one I am swaying to this year is the beautiful island of Corfu.

There is so much to do on this island including stunning scenery, fabulous architecture and some inspiring history.  A few of the top attractions include Taverva White house, over looking the bay in Kalami Village, which is where the famous Durrell family lived, the famous brothers lived here with their family for four years and stayed in Greece for many years.  It is here in Corfu they were inspired to create some of their greatest work and there is even a Durrell School of Corfu in there honour.  This school is located in Corfu Town and can be visited by all.  Another must see is the Angelokastro, which is one of the most important Byzantine castles of Greece.  It is located at the top of the highest peak of the island's coastline on the north west of the island near to Palaiokastritsa.  It will serve amazing views from the top when you eventually arrive at the top.

From what I have researched you won't be disappointed by the beaches that Corfu has to offer.  Most of the island's beaches are sandy and have beautiful, turquoise blue seas which are calm and safe to bathe in.  You will find beaches of all sizes from the large touristy beaches to the small secluded coves with no-one on them.

I feel you will probably benefit more from hiring a car on the island.  With friends and colleagues recommending car hire and travelling everywhere on the island, this has got to be a cheaper and more exciting way of spending the duration of your holiday.  The island of Corfu is not that big and you will be able to get everywhere and see most things with in a weeks stay here.
